What It Means To Be A Christian Christianity is one of the world's largest religions with followers spanning into the billions. Rough estimates put the religion as having upwards of 2 billion followers. This means that one out of every three people on the planet believe and follow the teachings of Christianity. The religion was first brought about by the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus, regarded as the son of god, gained a massive following by traveling and spreading the teachings of god. While he himself did not establish a church, the religion that is at its height of popularity today has done so to gather all of its' followers in one central place. The Teachings The holy bible is where followers find solace in the words of Jesus. It is the bible which is said to have been the words of god that have been written by man. When Jesus was alive, he tried teaching the world that it is better to be kind and forgiving than miserable and hold grudges. While this is not all that is taught within the bible or Jesus' teachings, it is perhaps one of the most important aspects of the religion itself. Jesus traveled the land trying to lead by example. When his persecutors put him on the cross, he prayed for their sins. This is what the power of forgiveness can do for a person. It is a way of saying that no matter what happens in the world or what a person does to another, forgiveness should be given at some point. Many people have a very hard time conceptualizing this and can only do so through the words of Christ himself. The world has been studying and practicing the words of Jesus for over two thousand years. Culture The cultural aspects of the religion can be seen everywhere in society. There are many bands that produce only Christian music, there are Christian targeted books and various other Christian materials. This is because the teachings set forth in the bible are so very strong for all that they often want it to be an integral part of their lives. Many people go to church on Sundays and much of the world holds this day as a holy day. For the majority of the world, Sunday has been completely set aside for prayer, reflection and being with a person's family. It is a strong religion that is continually growing in followers.
